Parents
If You Have a Concern
We know that from time to time parents may have concerns about their child’s experience at school. These might relate to learning, homework, wellbeing, friendships or a particular incident. We want to work with you to resolve concerns quickly, fairly and positively.
Most concerns can be resolved informally, and early communication really helps.
What to Do If You Are Concerned
Step 1: Talk to your child
If your child is unhappy or something doesn’t feel right, take time to listen and understand what has happened. Gathering a clear picture will help when you contact school.
Step 2: Contact the class teacher
Your child’s class teacher should always be the first point of contact for any concern. They know your child best and can usually resolve concerns quickly.
You can contact them:
- via the class or teacher’s email address
- by contacting the school office via email or phone
Stoughton – infants@stoughton.surrey.sch.uk or 01483 504172
Northmead – info@northmead.surrey.sch.uk or 01483 529870
The class teacher will then respond by email, phone or by arranging a meeting.
Step 3: Work together to resolve the concern
Sometimes the teacher may involve other staff (for example, the SENCo, the Year Leader or the Home School Link Worker) to help find the best solution.
Step 4: Speak to a senior member of staff (if needed)
If you feel the concern has not been resolved, or you find it difficult to discuss the issue with the class teacher, you can request a meeting with a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT):

Step 6: Making a formal complaint
In rare cases, where concerns cannot be resolved informally, it may be necessary to make a formal complaint. This should be viewed as a last resort, as formal procedures take longer and can be more stressful for everyone involved.

Formal complaints must be submitted using the Learning Partners Academy Trust complaints form
